Orienting: Locating oneself in time and space
Matrescence: The process of becoming a mother
I chose the name Orienting Matrescence while I was reading Hold Onto Your Kids by Gordon Neufeld, Ph.D and Gabor Maté, MD. This book is where I first read the definition of “orienting” and I realized that was exactly what I wanted to help mothers do - locate themselves in time and space. The becoming of a mother, whether it's your first or fourth time, can be disorienting.
There is so much noise, from family to social media, even strangers! I seek to cut through that noise and provide mothers a mooring in the seas of new motherhood - a compass back to themselves.
Matrescence is one of the biggest changes a woman goes through in her life, one of three times in our lives that our brain is the most open to rewiring (the others being infancy, from 0-3 years old, and adolescence). Every direction we look, mothers are told to doubt themselves and their own intuition.
I want to help guide mothers back to themselves, to trusting the little whispers inside and feeling empowered enough to tell the people in their life that they know what they are doing.

I offer virtual sleep consulting for infants and toddlers, as well as education on biologically normal infant sleep. I offer a soft place to land and a helping hand to figure out how to best support you and your family.
I also offer in person meetings if you live in the Portland, Oregon Metro Area or surrounding area.
-
I work with infants, neurologically defined as 0-3 years old.
-
Biologically normal infant sleep is the understanding that sleep is a biological process that unfolds on its own timeline and that we as parents can make adjustments but we cannot control sleep.
Sleep training has such a wide definition but at its core, it is a behavioral training that seeks to stop infant night time signaling. I am not a sleep trainer. I will never encourage you to stop responding to your child overnight.
-
I want to talk with them! I want to explain the science behind responsive parenting day and night and the lack of science behind sleep training. I highly recommend they also read the book The Nurture Revolution by Dr. Greer Kirshenbaum.
-
Absolutely! Sleep training is never necessary and it isn't a medical issue, it's a parenting choice.
-
Absolutely! If you have sleep trained in the past but have changed your mind, I am happy to walk with you while you re-route and repair with your baby.

The Single Session Sleep Support Call is the perfect option for you! You can read more about it here.

I am not a sleep trainer. I don't believe sleep training works the way it's presented and I will always encourage responsive, high attunement parenting. I may be trained on sleep and neurobiological development but you know your baby. I want to collaborate with you, not give you a blanket schedule and insist your solution is just to ignore your baby's crying.

My 15 minute consultation call is always free.
My Single Session Sleep Support Call is $250 and if you then choose to move forward with the Integrative Infant Sleep support package, applies to that fee.
My Integrative Infant Sleep support package is $1750 and good for 2 months of continuous support. A $250 payment is due before our first call. The rest of the payment is due in full within 2 weeks.
If this is cost-prohibitive, please reach out and we can discuss a sliding scale or a payment plan.
If you are seeking in person support, reach out to me to inquire about additional fees.

Every baby and every family is different. Anyone who promises specific results within a certain time frame is guessing. In general, it can take up to two weeks for changes to show an effect. If we get to the end of our time together and you still feel like you need more support, we can discuss moving forward with a weekly or fortnightly plan.
